Patrick J. Duffy, IAO
NYSAA President

So What's in a Name?

Several years ago, Past President Peter Galarneau introduced web technology to the State Assessors’ Association. Like a new born, Peter has nurtured his technological baby along to where we are today. Few would argue with the benefits it has provided our membership over the past few years.

So one might wonder what the significance is of changing the Association’s e-mail address from NYSAA@warwick.net to NYSAA@nyassessor.com.  At first, this might just be dismissed as something cosmetic, but behind the scenes, our website continues to evolve by leaps and bounds. These recent changes not only allow an identity more befitting our Association, it will allow us additional features that will further benefit our members and it will ultimately save us at least $600 per year!

So what are some of the benefits you might see?

  • Time sensitive newsletters to supplement the bi-monthly publication of The Bulletin and the Interim Update.
  • In my address to the Annual Conference at Rochester, I said that we, your Executive Board, will provide the leadership if you provide the direction; in addition to all other means available, I intend to take full advantage of electronic surveys to gauge the direction you think we should be pursuing.
  • Past President J. Todd Wiley, IAO, has proposed an ambitious plan for exchanging information (i.e., income and expense information) amongst assessor in a secure manner. With the recent changes to the website, we are closer to bringing his dream to fruition.

Membership has its benefits and we’ve have just begun to "sweeten the pot."  This is your Association working for you!

(As a quick footnote: E-mails sent to NYSAA@warwick.net will still be received by the Association for the short term future, but you are encouraged to change your address books over to NYSAA@nyassessor.com as soon as possible.)
